St. Lucia National Cricket Stadium - Beau-se-jour Cricket
Ground - 2007 WCC match line-up
 
Impressive. First-class. Exceptional. These adjectives, and
more, were used by cricket aficionados to describe St Lucia's
state-of-the-art Beau-se-jour Stadium attending the 2nd Cable
& Wireless Internationals between the West Indies and New
Zealand last year.
West Indies captain Carl Hooper remarked at a news conference:
"I am very impressed by what I have seen at this ground
and it is good to see that they are willing to spend this kind
of money to bring this ground up to the required standard. This
facility is right up there with others I have seen." New
Zealand captain Stephen Fleming said: "As a player, when
you look at a ground one of the first things you examine is
the playing surface and the outfield. This one looks like something
from the top drawer. Add the appearance of the stands and it
all looks like a great facility. It is still in the early stages
of its development, but everything seems to be in place for
it to get better over a longer period of time."
Situated on the outskirts of the tourist resort area of Rodney
Bay on the island's north-east coast, the ground is set in the
rolling hills of Beau-se-jour and it passed every test that had
been set for the hosting of an international cricket match.
Constructed on 22 acres of land, the stadium has a seating capacity
of 15,000 and is highlighted by all the modern conveniences.
It includes stands with bucket-type seating, 18 hospitality
suites and a well-appointed pavilion that offers each team its
own gym, lounge, balcony and conference room.
As the West Indies prepares to host the World Cup 2007, our facilities
will come under greater and increasing scrutiny. This will just
be the tip of the iceberg of what we will have to accomplish in
the next five years to make our hosting of that event a success
not only for West Indies cricket, but also the Caribbean community.
We believe that all of the countries in the Caribbean are capable
of equalling or surpassing what we all enjoyed in St Lucia last
weekend. Hopefully, it will help to remove any lingering doubt
as to the West Indies' ability to stage one of or the best cricket
World Cup ever.
The World Cup will represent the single biggest entertainment
and sporting event that the Caribbean will ever undertake. With
its 8,000 hotel rooms, cruise ship berthing facilities,
international airports and a state-of-the-art cricket stadium,
it appears St Lucia has positioned itself to feature prominently
in the World Cup 2007.

ICC World Cup 2007 Match Schedule Announced
The full match schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007
has been announced in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The first match of the tournament will take place on Tuesday
13 March 2007 at the newly renovated Sabina Park in Kingston,
Jamaica between the West Indies and Pakistan in Group D.
Round robin play will see six games over a period of 11 days,
with the final match of this Group slated for 23 March, between
the West Indies and Ireland who secured their place at the
ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 by reaching the final of the recent
ICC Trophy.
Australia, defending ICC Cricket World Cup champions, will
begin their attempt to retain their title at the fully upgraded
Warner Park Stadium in St Kitts when they take on Scotland
on Wednesday 14 March.
The twin-island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago will host
Group B. Group play will commence on Thursday, 15 March when
Sri Lanka meets Bermuda, India and Sri Lanka meet in the group’s
showpiece game on 23 March.
Saint Lucia will welcome the teams, officials and fans to
Group C of the competition. Play starts at Beausejour on 14
March when Kenya takes on Canada. Kenya, the surprise team
from the last ICC Cricket World Cup, also closes out group
play on 24 March, when they face England.
In all four Group stage Host Venues, six matches will be played
over 11 days.
The winners and runners-up from each of the four groups will
earn the right to advance to the Super 8 stage of the tournament
where teams will play each of the other teams advancing –
except the team which advanced from their own group –
for a total of six games each.
The Super 8 stage of the tournament, which begins on Tuesday
27 March, will be played in four countries: Antigua, Guyana,
Grenada and Barbados. The last match of this segment of the
tournament will take place on Saturday 21 April.
For the semi-finals the four remaining teams will travel to
Jamaica and Saint Lucia. On Tuesday, 24 April Sabina Park
in Kingston will be the venue for semi-final 1, where the
second and third place finishers from the Super 8’s
will square off against each other.
On Wednesday, 25 April the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet
will stage semi-final 2, pitting the first and fourth place
finishers from the Super 8’s against each other.
Saturday 28 April is the date that this prestigious tournament,
hosted by the West Indies will climax in the final, when the
two semi-final winners will meet at Kensington Oval in Barbados
to contest the ninth ICC Cricket World Cup final.
The tournament will see 51 One-Day International matches over
a 59 day period, in world class competition venues against
the unique backdrop of the Caribbean.
The event logo and event mascot were also unveiled at this
‘Brand Launch’ event which was streamed live on
the internet. The event mascot is a teenage character called
‘Mello’ who embodies the lifestyle of the region.
